How do Ships float in water ?

According to the Archimedes principle, "an object in a fluid experiences an upward force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by it."

The same principle goes for the floating ships. The reason ships float is that they displace a lot of water, if a ship could not push enough water out of the way, it would probably sink. The displaced water wants to return in its original form, where the ship is now, & keeps pushing it upwards. As a result, we get a smoothly floating ship. The force which pushes the ship up is called the buoyancy force.

Designers keep it in mind that the ship will displace the total amount of water equal to its weight, way before the water gets in.
